Apple is reportedly working on upgrading its voice assistant Siri to enable more human-like conversations. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the updated version of Siri is expected to launch by 2026.
As per the report, Apple plans to make Siri engage in continuous conversations with users and respond in a more natural and human-like manner. With the integration of large language models (LLMs), Siri will be able to handle more complex tasks, eliminating the need for OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which is currently required in iOS 18.2.

The report adds that the voice assistant will have enhanced capabilities to use App Intents for interacting with third-party apps, while also leveraging Apple Intelligence to summarize and compose text.
According to Gurman, the ‘human-like Siri’ will initially be available as a standalone app on iPads, Macs, and iPhones, with plans to gradually replace the current version. The new Siri could launch as early as 2025, potentially during Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference in June.

Although early previews of the updated Siri are expected, Apple doesn’t plan an immediate release. The goal is to roll out the new version by spring 2026, alongside the launch of iOS 19.
As part of the iOS 18 update, Apple will enhance Siri’s functionality with Apple Intelligence, its in-house AI. This will improve Siri’s ability to manage tasks within and across apps. Siri will also be able to pass requests to ChatGPT without requiring an account or permission for each request. The next immediate Siri update is expected to arrive in December.

Notably, Apple has been cautious with its AI rollout, only recently integrating ChatGPT into Siri with the iOS 18.2 beta last month. Several new features for Siri are in the pipeline, including the ability to “understand” what’s on your screen and perform actions within apps, which are expected to arrive next year.
